All About
Us Presentations
The beginning of a school year is always a time
of excitement, apprehension, and discovery. To enhance that excitement and diminish
some of the anxiety, have your class create a presentation using AppleWorks,
PowerPoint, or KidPix Studio Deluxe. The presentation can be shown
at Back-to-School, or printed out and bound into a class book. This activity will
give everyone a chance to get to know one another.
Skill Level: Moderate
Materials:
- Presentation program (AppleWorks, PowerPoint, or KidPix Studio Deluxe)
- Digital camera to take student's picture or scanner to scan existing photos
of students.
- Computer
Procedure:
- Each student is required to complete one slide. Each slide should contain
the picture of the student and three pieces of trivia that describe them.
If you are working with younger children, you can have students draw pictures,
or use clipart instead of writing.
- If you are scanning pictures, have each student bring a picture from home.
If you are using a digital camera, take a picture of each student. Place all
of the pictures in one folder on your hard drive. Each picture should be named
with the student's name.
- Depending on the skill levels of your students, they can import their own
picture onto their slide. If students are unaware of how to do this, then
have them write their three trivia items first, and you can import the pictures
late
- When all of the slides are complete, you can print them out and create an
All About Us book, run the presentation at Back-to-School night, or have students
present their slide to the class.
